How to transition into a new chapter in life

by | Dec 28, 2020 | All Posts, Mindful Living

You’re probably wondering why the feature image for this post is a blank white image. It’s a symbol for the blank slate for a new chapter in your life. We’ve all been through A LOT in 2020, so much has changed and navigating through these changes has probably been a challenge for all of us. Which is why for my last blog post of 2020, I want to talk about CHANGE, and how to transition into your new chapter in life.

I’m sure it’s going to be very easy for all of us to make a list of everything that has gone wrong this year. But I challenge you to find the positive amongst all the anxiety and all the chaos this year brought with it. Don’t leave 2020 with a bag of regrets and resentment, hold onto everything that worked in your favor, hold on the the blessings in disguise, and hold onto the connections you’ve built.

Transitioning into a new phase in life is always a challenge, but there are a few steps that can not only make this transition easier, but also much more fulfilling. I’m going to lay out these steps for you, and over the next few days, I want YOU to act on them. Trust me this will be worth it.

A little over 4 years ago I learnt about manifestation and the power of positivity. I knew the concepts as ‘trends’ before but when I was able to use them as a tool to make big changes in my own life I was amazed at the power they hold. This prompted me to start a new year’s tradition, one that I will introduce to you today, where I use manifestation and positivity as a tool to spell out what I want in the following year. Don’t get me wrong this post is not about making new years’ resolutions, it’s about accepting change and reflecting on your past so that you can move ahead with your best foot forward.

This is a tradition that I hope all of you can resonate with, even if you choose to do only 1-2 steps of the 5 I can promise it will add value to your life. This is something I do leading up to new year’s eve, but you can use this whenever you’re going through a big change your life. So without further ado, here it is:

5 steps to follow to transition into a new chapter in life:

Day 1 Reflect

It’s important to reflect on the year, so for the first step I want you to think about and make a list of everything POSITIVE that has happened this year. Spend just 15-30 minutes on this and write it out. Reflect on the best moments of 2020! It’s our final week in 2020 and reflecting on everything that went right this year is important.

If you’re doing this while working through a big change in your life, then use this time to reflect on what has worked in your favor for the changes coming your way. Write down all the positive things that have happened leading up to this big change in your life.

Reflecting on everything that has worked in your favor will help boost your mood and also help you as you power through the next 4 steps. I like to start with reflection because it helps me shift into a positive mindset and I hope it does the same for you!

Day 2 Journal

This is a tough one, I’m not going to lie. It’s pretty much the opposite of day 1, but it is very very important. For step 2 I want you to journal about everything NEGATIVE that has happened this year. Make a list of everything that didn’t work for you, let out all the frustration, the regrets and the resentment. Once again spend about 30 mins with yourself and write it out.

You’ll be surprised but journaling is actually very cathartic, it’s going to help you process your negative emotions. I’m asking you to do this after step one because starting with the negative may demotivate some of you from following through the next steps. I promise this is the only step that is a difficult one, but if you decide to do this it’s going to help you release negativity that you don’t want to carry forward into the next year.

If you’re doing this to work though a big shift in your life, write out what has been difficult for you regarding this change. Write down the anxieties you may have about the future. When you have it written out you’ll be able to process your emotions, and acknowledge the hard stuff.

Journaling is powerful, it helps declutter your mind and will help you process your emotions. If you’ve never journaled before try it once, see if it works for you. IF you don’t feel comfortable journaling start with just thinking about and acknowledging your negative emotions. The goal here is to declutter your mind and let out all the negativity.

Now we can move onto the fun stuff!

Day 3 Gratitude

I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again – Gratitude can supercharge your manifestations! So even if you decide to skip step 1 and 2, step 3 is non-negotiable. For this step I want you to express gratitude. Thank those who have supported you this year, write them a short NYE message and express your gratitude. I also want you to take 15-30 minutes to write down what you’re grateful for in your life right now, be it your family, your friends, your job – ANYTHING you’re grateful for!

If you’re doing this step while working through a big change in your life, write about why you’re grateful for this change. Express gratitude to those who have helped you through this change.

Gratitude is powerful and in fact I would encourage you to practice gratitude in your daily life outside of these five steps. I like to write down 3 things I am grateful for at the end of each day and honestly since I started my gratitude practice I’ve seen a huge shift in my mindset. You want to get in the gratitude mindset, especially with the year we’ve had. It’s been tough for everyone so expressing what you grateful is a nice way to focus on the positive.

Day 4 Manifest

I like to think about manifestation like planning on steroids. It’s powerful and it works! So for step 4 I want you to manifest. Write down everything you want in the next year, it can be absolutely anything you want! Have fun with this one. You’ll be surprised to see how much you can actually come up with. However, I would encourage you to split up your manifestations into short term and long term manifestations. Treat this like your wish list for 2021. Don’t just focus on material things you may want, dig deep and write out what you want in your life. For example in my list last year I had “I meet like minded people this year.”

If you want to you could write down two copies of your list and burn or tear one copy at midnight on NYE! This is a good tradition to start and you could ask your family and friends to join you!

In the past I have written down a list of over 200 manifestations for a given year, and believe it or not more than 50% of my manifestations have come true! Even with covid this year I can already think of at-least 50-60 manifestations on my list from last year that have come true.

MAKE SURE YOU WRITE OUT YOUR MANIFESTATIONS IN THE PRESENT TENSE. This is important when you practice manifestation, it signals to the universe and to your subconscious that you already have what you want.

If you want to read more about manifestation in detail I encourage you to check out my previous blog post – How to practice manifestation to make your dreams come true!

If you’re doing this step while working through a big change in your life, write out your goals related to this change.

Once again, manifestation is powerful and like gratitude I would encourage you to try to incorporate this into your daily/weekly routine. The key is to write it out, write as much as you want because the more you ask for the more you’re likely to get. Think about it as if you’re planning, and the more plan the more likely you are to get stuff done! As an additional resource, a book that really helped me learn manifestation is – The Last Law of Attraction Book You’ll Ever Need to Read by Andrew Kap

Day 5 Visualize

And finally step 5! VISUALIZE! You can either chose to do this right after you write out your manifestations or do this on January 1st 2021. I would say spend your day just thinking about your goals for the year and spending about 30 minutes visualizing these goals coming true. To visualize just close your eyes and imagine your life if have everything you manifested for.

This can seem a bit silly, but it’s fun! It’s also important because this will help push your manifestations to the next level. If you’ve never done visualization you can try out this guided visualization before you do it for your own manifestation list – Guided visualization exercise

VISUALIZE WHAT YOU WANT IN AS MUCH DETAIL AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN!

Once again if you’re doing this step while working through a big change in your life, visualize yourself achieving your goals related to this change.

I hope that this 5 step process resonates with you and works for you! Start step 1 with me TODAY if you want to join this tradition for NYE, ask your friends and family to join. Trust me, do this once and you’ll want to do it again!
